Mental Growth
Based on Jesus’s interactions with Jewish teachers at the Temple when he was twelve years-old (Luke 2:43–47), he seems to have always been ahead of his peers intellectually. Yet, he grew in his knowledge and skillful application of God’s Word. When the Spirit of God was poured out on him, he received wisdom in a greater and higher degree (consider Isaiah 11:1–4). Until that time, though, Jesus advanced and grew intellectually the same way we must. He had to work at it. By the time he began his public ministry, and by the time he met the cross at Calvary, Jesus knew how to handle the circumstances and challenges he faced because he continually increased in wisdom. Are we doing the same?
